We love to pour over war poetry and anti-war poetry.
But what difference does it make? Or a better question: What difference DID it make?
Who wins wars?
Writers win wars; but not when they write… when they fight.
Or have I missed something?
Are there any writers that through their words or publishing helped bring a war to an end?
Sassoon was writing while fighting, but did he make a difference?
Ignore my cynicism; I hold out hope.
I seek to be corrected.
We should matter; our thoughts and words should be powerful, more powerful than bombs, more barbed than the wire on which your damp youth slumps.
Over to you
Ok, let’s hear from you.
Drop names of writers or poets who helped end a war or who are currently fighting in the war in Ukraine in the comment or in response to the notes and I’ll turn this round and feature them.
‘Writers who helped end wars’ or ‘Writers who are helping end the war’ would be a much better title dontchathink?
Best wishes and peace where you can find it.

The pen spreads the word, sows the seed

War doesn’t end itself.
The gun, it doesn’t pull the trigger.
